A 10-week season at the Capitol Theatre
The musical has been running in London's West End since 2025 and is based on Michael Bond's 1958 book A Bear Called Paddington as well as the hit film adaptations. Its Sydney season will be performed at the Capitol Theatre for 10 weeks.

- Dates in any other Australian cities
- The Sydney cast
Record-breaking award run in London
The production has received many five-star reviews, including in the Guardian, and won seven Olivier awards earlier this year, tying for the record for the most wins for any musical. Those awards included best new musical and best set design.
Among the honours:
- A joint best actor in a musical award for James Hameed and Arti Shah
- A record nine WhatsOnStage awards
- The Critics' Circle award for best new musical
How the bear is brought to life
Paddington appears on stage through an animatronic puppet designed by costume designer Tahra Zafar. In London, the performance is split between two people: James Hameed provides the voice and is the remote puppeteer, while Arti Shah performs wearing the furry costume.
Producers and composer on Sydney
Producers Sonia Friedman and Eliza Lumley said they were "thrilled" the show would go to Sydney, citing the city's extraordinary appetite for world-class musical theatre and the affection Australians have long held for Paddington. They said they wanted Paddington The Musical to open only in cities where it can be produced with the same ambition and on the same scale as London.
Composer Tom Fletcher called working on the show "the greatest adventure of my career" and said he was so excited to have the opportunity to bring the show to Sydney and share the bear with Australian audiences.
The London run continues until at least 2028, and the show is opening on Broadway in April 2027. Sydney casting and any further Australian dates remain to be announced.
